Sound.
One of the quickest ways to calm our anxious hearts is through sound.
Many ailments, like IBS, migraines, overactive bladder, constipation, fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, pelvic pain, and any kind of persisting pain can be caused or made worse by anxiety. One of the fastest ways to lower your heart rate, focus your mind and slow your breathing is through sound. A couple of years ago I started shutting off the radio on my drive to work. I just focused on taking many slow deep breaths. Once I shut out the sound of the news, or the popular music and just focused on my breath I was suddenly able to deal with curve-balls more easily. I could keep my cool better with my children. Let go of that tight feeling in my chest more easily. Not to mention banish my IBS and abdominal pain that I had had since I was a kid. An alternative to silence (because it can be deafening) is this amazing playlist I just discovered (thanks for the share, Embody Physiotherapy & Wellness!).
